The Junior Section hosted the much-anticipated Inter-House Spell Bee Competition for students of Grades IV and V on the 29th of November 2024. This year’s Spell Bee was graced by our very own Principal, Mr. Alistair R.A. Freese, an eloquent and inspiring spell master, who ensured the event was both challenging and engaging.
In a world where improper English, often influenced by informal SMS language, is becoming commonplace, Bishop Cotton Boys’ School stands tall in nurturing the holistic development of the English language. The competition showcased some of the finest young spellers, emphasizing the importance of accurate spelling, fostering healthy linguistic habits, and building confidence on stage.
The Spell Bee consisted of ten dynamic rounds, each with distinct and stimulating themes ranging from sports and music to science. The rounds were designed to test the participants’ knowledge and quick thinking, as they spelled each word with precision under the intense pressure of the countdown timer.
The event was not just a competition but also an opportunity for both participants and the audience to expand their vocabulary, as they discovered new and intriguing words throughout the contest.
The competition concluded on a high note, with Elphick House securing the first place, followed closely by Pakenham Walsh House in second place, and Pope House in third place.
This enriching event reaffirmed the school’s dedication to academic excellence and its commitment to nurturing young minds in all spheres of learning.
