The Holy Eucharist Celebrated by The Rt. Rev. Vincent Vinod Kumar, Bishop, CSI–KCD
Thursday, 14th August, marked a momentous and sacred milestone in the annals of Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, as the institution solemnly celebrated the 160th anniversary of its founding. The occasion was made all the more significant by the gracious presence of The Rt. Rev. Dr. Vincent Vinod Kumar, Bishop of the CSI–Karnataka Central Diocese, who officiated at the service for the first time following his episcopal consecration.
The day’s solemnity commenced with the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 2:00 p.m. in the School Chapel. The sacred liturgy drew together the entire school community—students, faculty, and clergy—in a spirit of reverence, reflection, and thanksgiving. The service was a poignant reminder of the sacrificial vision and missionary zeal of the Founder, Rev. Samuel Thomas Pettigrew, whose steadfast commitment to Christian education laid the foundation for one of the country’s most distinguished institutions.
Presiding at the Holy Table, the Bishop was joined by a distinguished assembly of clergy: The Rev. Christopher Samuel (Secretary, CSI–KCD), Rev. Theodore William (Assistant Secretary), Rev. Christy Gnanadasan (Vice Chairman of the Board of Management), Rev. Y. Justin, Rev. Rachel Sudharson, and Rev. Immanuel Nehemiah. Their collective presence lent great ecclesial gravitas to the celebration.
In his sermon, the Bishop delivered a deeply edifying message, exhorting the congregation to emulate the Founder’s Christ-centered vision and remain steadfast in their commitment to serving humanity as an expression of divine love in action. He spoke eloquently of Rev. Pettigrew’s enduring legacy—a man who, inspired by the Gospel, transformed vision into reality, and whose spirit continues to animate the mission and life of the institution.
The liturgy was further uplifted by the celestial strains of traditional hymns, rendered with reverence and musical finesse. The Chapel, adorned in solemn beauty, was suffused with a palpable sense of the Holy Spirit’s presence, enveloping all in an atmosphere of sacred awe.
At the conclusion of the service, Principal Mr. Alistair R. A. Freese offered a formal note of gratitude to the Bishop and clergy for their spiritual leadership and for invoking divine blessings upon the School on this historic day. He acknowledged the occasion as a sacred convergence of heritage, faith, and educational vision.
