“It is better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it.”
— Joseph Joubert

The Inter-House Senior School Debate was held on the 10th of July 2025 at the School Auditorium. As the first speaker took the podium, silence fell across the hall, giving way to an intellectually charged exchange of ideas. The topic for the debate was: “In the light of the current scenario, diplomacy rather than military action is the best way to resolve enmity between nations.”

The proposition maintained that dialogue is a mark of wisdom, not weakness, while the opposition argued that diplomacy without strength is ineffective.

The panel of judges included:

  • Ms. Sharon N. Savio, Senior English Teacher at St. Joseph’s Boys’ School, public speaker and mentor in elocution and theatre
  • Mrs. Claudina Vinita Rabbi, English teacher at Bishop Cotton Girls’ School with corporate and international experience
  • Mrs. Riji Sourabh, poet, debate adjudicator, and educator at Christ Academy

The audience was thoroughly engaged by the compelling arguments from all speakers. Thomas House (Mayank Brijesh and Ishaan Rajan) emerged as the winners, followed by Pakenham Walsh House (Samarth Hegde and Ameya Karaba) in second place, and Pettigrew House (Shane Mathew and Jayden Varghese) in third. The Best Speaker awards went to Mayank Brijesh (Grade 10) and Jayden Varghese (Grade 9).

The debate concluded with a powerful message: diplomacy and military might are not opposites, but tools—and true wisdom lies in knowing which to wield, and when.
