The Dr. Raja Ramanna Inter-School Chess Tournament 2025, organized by the Old Cottonians’ Association (OCA), was successfully held at Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, Bengaluru, on Friday, January 24, 2025. The tournament was officiated by arbiters from the Karnataka State Chess Association (KSCA) and the Bengaluru Urban District Chess Association (BUDCA). Mr. Vasanth B.H., a renowned international FIDE arbiter, ensured that all games were conducted fairly and transparently.
Held in honour of Dr. Raja Ramanna, a distinguished alumnus of Bishop Cotton Boys’ School and the father of India’s nuclear program, the tournament attracted an impressive participation of over 500 students from various schools across the city. Co-sponsored by Reseda Life Sciences and Reimagine, the event featured players from primary to senior secondary levels, categorized into five groups based on age and skill. The Swiss-system format ensured that each participant played multiple rounds against opponents of similar calibre.
The tournament concluded with the distribution of trophies and certificates to the winners by the esteemed Patron, Major General Sultan Mahmood.
Tournament Results:
- Category A: Yashas Gowda B (Christ School ICSE, Bangalore) emerged as the winner, followed by Kiara Agarwal (Greenwood High) as the first runner-up and Amyra Arora (Greenwood High) as the second runner-up.
- Category B: Vyan Banchhor (Baldwin Boys’ High School) secured the top position, with Vivan Hota (VIBGYOR Rise CBSE School) as the first runner-up and Rikesh Anand (Delhi Public School East) as the second runner-up.
- Category C: Indrajit Majumdar (Bishop Cotton Boys’ School) claimed victory, with Pratitee Bordoloi (Shishya BEML Public School) and Vishruth Ajay Krishnan (Greenwood High) as runners-up.
- Category D: Krishna (BVM Global School) took first place, followed by Vivaan Sachdev (Delhi Public School Bangalore North) and Akshin Chugh (Greenwood High) as runners-up.
- Category E: Gopika M (Silicon City Academy of Secondary Education) secured the championship, with Debanksh Chatterjee (Bishop Cotton Boys’ School) as the first runner-up and Aishwarya G (Sri Chaitanya PU College) as the second runner-up.
The tournament was a true testament to the participants’ strategic depth, tactical prowess, composure, and remarkable foresight, highlighting the spirit of sportsmanship and intellectual excellence.
