Bishop Cotton Boys’ School joyfully marked its 160th Founder’s Day on 14th August 2025, honouring the vision and legacy of its founder, Rev. S. T. Pettigrew. The day was steeped in tradition, creativity, and spirited camaraderie, reflecting the rich heritage of one of India’s most distinguished institutions.
The celebrations commenced with a Special Assembly, graced by Old Cottonian Mr. Kartik Kalevar (Batch of ’78, Pettigrew House). Cottonians from the youngest to the eldest presented a series of wonderfully organised performances, each paying tribute to the school’s enduring legacy.
The Kindergarten Block joined in the festivities, combining Founder’s Day and Independence Day celebrations with prayer, songs, dances, and colourful art-and-craft activities. Dressed as freedom fighters and in army attire, the young Cottonians delighted the audience with vibrant performances, tricolour decorations, and heartfelt tributes to Rev. Pettigrew, instilling pride and patriotism from the earliest years.
The Middle School hosted two vibrant art competitions — a Drawing Competition for Std. 6 on the theme Our School, and a Collage Making Competition for Std. 7 on Founder’s Day at School. Judged by Ms. Malavika and Mrs. Glory, the events displayed exceptional creativity, originality, and teamwork.
In the Junior II Department, Standards 4 and 5 participated in a Collage Making Competition based on Independence Day and Founder’s Day. The bag-less day encouraged students to explore their imagination, with colourful and thoughtful designs reflecting both patriotism and school pride.
Sportsmanship took centre stage as the much-anticipated Staff vs Students Football Match ended in a nail-biting 6–5 victory for the Staff, earning them bragging rights for the year. The Lady Staff of Cottons also took to the field, engaging in a spirited and entertaining handball match.
The day’s events concluded on a solemn and reverent note with the Commemoration of the 160th Founder’s Day through the Holy Eucharist, celebrated by The Rt. Rev. Vincent Vinod Kumar, Bishop, CSI–KCD.
Presiding at the Holy Table, the Bishop was joined by a distinguished assembly of clergy: The Rev. Christopher Samuel (Secretary, CSI–KCD), The Rev. Theodore William (Assistant Secretary), The Rev. Christy Gnanadasan, The Rev. Y. Justin, The Rev. Rachel Sudharson, and The Rev. Immanuel Nehemiah. Their collective presence lent great ecclesial gravitas to the celebration.
True to the school motto — Nec Dextrorsum, Nec Sinistrorsum (Neither to the right nor to the left) — the celebrations reflected Bishop Cotton Boys’ School’s unwavering commitment to excellence, values, and tradition.
