The Sheth-Gomes Essay Invitational is an annual creative writing competition instituted by the graduating batch of 1981 of Campion School, Mumbai, in honour of two esteemed Campion teachers, Mr. Joe Sheth and Mr. Stanley Gomes.

The fourth edition of the contest was graced by renowned film director Rajkumar Hirani as the Chief Guest. The distinguished jury was chaired by Ashish Bhasin, alongside director Nikkhil Advani and writer Shabnam Minwalla. Prominent personalities from Campion’s graduating class of ’81, including Rajdeep Sardesai and Atul Kasbekar, were also present. This year’s thought-provoking topic was: “What Social Changes Will Power India in the 21st Century?”

For the first time, the competition saw participation from students outside Maharashtra. Ameya Karaba of Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, Bangalore, proudly represented the state of Karnataka as the only out-of-state participant.

All contestants were honoured with certificates and a special gift hamper comprising a smartwatch, a water bottle, and stationery. The winner of the competition was Plaksha Jain of Diamond Jubilee High School, who received a cash prize of ₹1,00,000.

The event proved to be an enriching and inspiring learning experience for Ameya Karaba, providing invaluable exposure to a high-calibre panel and a competitive literary platform.

On Straight On!
