Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, in collaboration with Green Panthers, successfully conducted an Urban Stargazing Session on the evening of 7th April 2026. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 85 students of Classes IV to XII, along with 5 staff members.

The school grounds were equipped with three different types of telescopes to provide students with a comprehensive observational experience. A computerised telescope enabled clear viewing of Jupiter along with its four Galilean moons. An amateur telescope was used to observe Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, while a smart telescope projected real-time images of deep-sky objects, including the Orion Nebula, thereby enriching the overall experience.

Students had the opportunity to observe celestial objects such as Jupiter with its moons, Sirius, and the Orion Nebula, making the session both informative and memorable. The resource persons from Green Panthers effectively guided the session using engaging videos and laser pointers, helping students identify constellations and understand fundamental astronomical concepts.

The session was highly engaging and interactive, with students displaying keen interest and curiosity throughout. They posed thoughtful questions about planets, stars, and the functioning of telescopes, reflecting a deepening understanding of the subject. The programme successfully achieved its objective of fostering curiosity and promoting a practical appreciation of astronomy, proving to be an enriching and inspiring learning experience beyond the classroom.
