Bishop Cotton Boys’ School proudly participated in SJAID 2026, an All India Debate Competition hosted by St. John’s School, Chandigarh, on 7th and 8th August 2026. The event brought together 20 schools from across India for four challenging rounds of thought-provoking debate.
Our Cottonians, Jeevan Valliamalai and Jayden Varghese Alex, displayed remarkable confidence, sharp reasoning and persuasive debating skills, earning a place in the final round among six finalist teams. The final motion, “This House believes that gratuity culture does more to promote generosity than elitism,” provided an engaging platform for a spirited exchange of ideas.
The team was accompanied and mentored by Mrs. Indu Shinto, whose constant guidance, encouragement and support played an important role in building the boys’ confidence and helping them perform at their best. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to her for accompanying the team and mentoring them throughout the event.
The competition also provided the students with an enriching opportunity to interact with participants from across the country and experience the warmth and hospitality of Chandigarh.
We express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Alistair R. A. Freese, Principal, for his unwavering support and encouragement, and to Mr. Dhiviyanathan, Vice Principal, and Ms. Suchismita Chaudhuri for their valuable guidance. We also appreciate Mrs. Rajashree Vipin, Principal of St. John’s School, Chandigarh, and Ms. Nitika Singh for their gracious hospitality and meticulous support throughout the event.
