The prestigious General K.S. Thimayya Memorial Lecture returned to the hallowed halls of Bishop Cotton Boys’ School for its 20th edition. Launched by the K.S. Thimayya Memorial Trust in 2004, this lecture series has featured an impressive lineup of notable speakers who honour General K.S. Thimayya for his exemplary service to the nation and emphasize the fundamental role Cottons plays in shaping future leaders.

The chief guest for this year’s lecture was Mr. Dilip Jajodia (Batch of 1961), owner of Dukes Cricket, Morrant, and other renowned cricket equipment enterprises. He was joined by an esteemed gathering of Old Cottonians, including Mr. Brijesh Patel, former cricketer and chairman of the IPL (2019-2022); Admiral Vijai Singh Shekhawat, former Chief of Naval Staff of India; and Mr. Robert Kin, Principal of Bethany Institutions, along with many other distinguished alumni and guests.

The event began with an introduction to the history and purpose of the General K.S. Thimayya Memorial Lecture by the Principal of Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, Mr. Alistair R.A. Freese. This was followed by a special felicitation of former staff members, including former principal Dr. Ebenezer, who were honoured from the Benevolent Fund of the K.S. Thimayya Trust. Each staff member was presented with Rs. 1.5 lakhs, recognizing over 2,700 combined years of dedicated service to the school.

The next highlight was the presentation of the General K.S. Thimayya Medal to Mr. Chiphang Arthur Worchuiyo, an IAS officer who has served in Manipur. This honour recognized his steadfast commitment to public service and his contributions as an exemplary civil servant. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Worchuiyo fondly recalled his days at Cottons, crediting the school with instilling in him the values that have guided him in his career and life.

Following the medal presentation, Mr. Dilip Jajodia took the stage for his keynote address. He began with a video showcasing the intricate manufacturing process of Dukes cricket balls, highlighting the signature six lines of hand-stitching that distinguish his products in the industry. Reflecting on his time as a boarder at Cottons in the late 1950s, he shared humorous anecdotes that had the audience in fits of laughter, bringing to life the memories of his formative years. His journey from cricket player to successful entrepreneur served as a powerful inspiration for everyone present, both alumni and current students alike.

The speech concluded with a lively Q&A session, marked by humour and insightful reflections. The key takeaway for the audience was the importance of cultivating a positive culture grounded in the timeless values and rich heritage of Bishop Cotton Boys’ School—a legacy that has thrived for 160 years.

The event was graced by the presence of students and staff from Bishop Cotton Girls’ School, reinforcing the unity and shared traditions between the two institutions. Following the lecture, a lunch was served to the guests, rounding off a memorable day of celebration, nostalgia, and inspiration.
