Bishop Cotton Boys’ School hosted the highly anticipated 157th Inter-House Annual Athletics Meet for the Middle, Senior, and ISC sections on the 13th of November 2024. This event marked a historic milestone as Cottons celebrated its 157th Annual Sports Day under the floodlights for the first time, adding a spectacular new dimension to the school’s rich legacy.
The Opening Ceremony
The evening began with the march past, a display of discipline and unity, followed by an exciting lineup of athletic events. The inter-house track events captivated the audience, while the inter-school races added competitive flair. Cottons emerged victorious in the ISC and 8th standard races, while St. John’s High School clinched the 10th and 7th standard races.
A highlight of the event was the Old Cottonians vs Present Cottonians race, which carried forward the cherished tradition of current students triumphing over their alumni—a tradition upheld since the school’s inception.
Showstopping Performances
The ‘Mashal Drill’, accompanied by a stunning laser show, was the trailblazer of the evening, leaving spectators in awe. This unforgettable spectacle etched lasting memories in the hearts of young Cottonians.
The most exhilarating event was the X to H Division Relay, which embodied the true spirit of sportsmanship. Participants from all ten divisions competed, proving that age is just a number. Equally impressive was the Office Bearers Relay, where the school’s leaders showcased teamwork and camaraderie.
The Closing Ceremony
The meet concluded with the closing ceremony, led by the marching platoon arranged in the order of house points. Pakenham Walsh House emerged victorious as the Cock House, followed by Pettigrew, Pope, Thomas, and Elphick Houses.
Special awards were distributed, with Angu Vijay of Pettigrew House, a national champion, winning the Best Athlete Award across all divisions. Pettigrew House also secured the Tug-of-War Trophy, adding to their accolades.
The evening ended with the house song of Pakenham Walsh House and an inspiring speech by the Chief Guest, Mr. Harsha Vardhan Umre, an Old Cottonian, who spoke passionately about his love for the school and the importance of education.
As the flags were ceremoniously rolled up to the tune of ‘Abide with Me’, a cherished Cottonian tradition, the curtain closed on yet another spectacular event in the school’s calendar.
