The Junior School Annual Sports Meet 2024 was a vibrant celebration of unity and competition. On November 12, 2024, the junior school students and parents gathered at the Bishop Cotton Boys’ School First Eleven Field for the most eagerly anticipated event of the year – Sports Day! The atmosphere was electric, with students from all five houses cheering enthusiastically and showcasing their team spirit.

The day commenced with a solemn prayer led by Rev. Vincent Vinod Kumar, invoking blessings and guidance for a successful and enjoyable event.

This year’s Sports Day was particularly special as our Principal, Mr. Alistair R.A. Freese, warmly welcomed the Chief Guest, Mr. Manoj Kumar Chopra Asia’s Strongest Man, along with other distinguished dignitaries. Our Chief Guest’s inspiring words and presence motivated our students to pursue excellence in all their endeavors. The Junior School 157th Annual Athletic Meet 2024-25 was officially declared open by our Chief Guest. The torchbearers from each house carried the Olympic flame, igniting the cauldron to symbolize the commencement of the event. The ceremony continued with the unfurling of the school flag by the Chief Guest, followed by the much-awaited march past. This stunning display of discipline, unity, and school pride was led by the Junior School Sports Captain, Aydin Mohammed Shariff.

The ceremony continued with a spectacular welcome drill performed by the talented students of Standard 1, who danced with dazzling moves and colourful costumes to the iconic song "We Are the World." The audience was mesmerized by their energetic and heart-warming performance. Following this, the students of Standards 2 and 3 delivered a vibrant and captivating performance to the tunes of "Magic in the Air" with passion that brings us together. Their lively act enthralled the audience with its creativity and enthusiasm.

Next, the students of Standards 4 and 5 took the stage, performing to the electrifying beats of Sean Paul & Kes – "Out of This World." Dressed in jerseys representing four different countries, these young stars demonstrated what it means to move with energy, precision, and absolute style. Their drill was a perfect blend of flair, rhythm, and team spirit, leaving the audience thoroughly impressed.

The athletic events kicked off with great energy as our students took to the tracks and fields, showcasing their incredible talent and determination. From the inter-school relays to the 50-meter dash and the 200-meter sprint, every event was a testament to the hard work and dedication of our young athletes.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the epic tug-of-war battle between Thomas House and Pettigrew House. The crowd erupted with excitement as the two teams clashed, their faces set with unwavering determination. After a thrilling contest, Thomas House emerged victorious, earning loud cheers and applause from the audience.

This year, Sports Day also featured the debut of our World Peace Mascots, who served a purpose beyond entertainment. The children of the junior school dressed as world leaders and sports icons, creatively showcasing the values and history of their respective teams. This unique addition fostered a tangible connection to the themes of unity and excellence.

The event concluded with the ceremonial lowering of the flag, which was respectfully handed over for safekeeping. The school and house captains led a rousing three cheers, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the successful event. Parents and students departed with a sense of pride, having witnessed an incredible display of teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship at our Junior School Sports Day.
