Bishop Cotton Boys’ School observed World Environment Day on 5th June 2026 with a special programme that brought together the school community in a celebration of environmental awareness and sustainable living.
The programme was honoured by the presence of Mr. Rahul Sunderrajan, Director, WWF India – Karnataka State, and an esteemed Old Cottonian, as the Chief Guest. Daksh A. Singhvi, School Captain Designate, addressed the gathering on the significance of the day, while Dhruv Kulkarni, Head of Day Scholars Designate, introduced the Chief Guest.
The event featured a theatrical presentation by Junior and Middle School students, highlighting environmental challenges and demonstrating how small yet responsible actions can contribute to a healthier environment. The ICSE and ISC Music Band delivered a moving performance of Michael Jackson’s Earth Song, reinforcing the event’s message through music and artistic expression.
In his keynote address, Mr. Sunderrajan emphasized the importance of conservation and urged students to become proactive custodians of the environment. Principal Dr. Alistair R. A. Freese led the students and staff in an environmental pledge, reaffirming the school’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
As a fitting conclusion to the programme, a sapling-planting ceremony was conducted by the Chief Guest, Principal, Vice Principal, and the World Environment Day Team, leaving a positive legacy for future generations.
The school extends its sincere appreciation to Mrs. Elizabeth Angiras, Head of Department, and the faculty members for organizing a meaningful and inspiring special assembly that sensitized students to the importance of environmental stewardship.
