The Prefects’ Investiture Ceremony of Bishop Cotton Boys’ School was held on Friday, 19 June 2026, continuing the School’s proud tradition of student leadership established in 1865.
The solemn programme began with a time of praise and worship led by Rev. J. Christopher Samuel. The ceremony formally commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Dr. Arvind Bhateja, distinguished neurosurgeon and alumnus of the School, in the presence of Board of Management members Rev. J. Christopher Samuel, Rev. Rachel Sudarshan, Mrs. Agnes Caroline, and Mrs. Vinisha Nero.
A highlight of the occasion was the oath-taking ceremony, during which the prefect-designates were formally invested as student leaders for the academic year 2026–27. The newly appointed prefects received their badges and ties from Dr. Alistair R. A. Freese, Principal, Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, symbolising their commitment to leadership, responsibility, and service.
In his address, Dr. Bhateja shared valuable insights on leadership and personal growth. Encouraging the student leaders to cultivate calmness and composure, he reminded them that “the brain works best in tranquillity and not when agitated.” He urged the prefects to lead with wisdom, humility, and a steady mind.
Adding to the dignity of the occasion, the School Choir presented a moving rendition of He is the Rock by Michael Barrett. The closing prayer was offered by Rev. Rachel Sudarshan. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dhruv Kulkarni, Head of Day Scholars, followed by the National Anthem.
The School records its appreciation of Mr. Dhiviyanathan J., Vice Principal, and the Coordinators of the ICSE and ISC Departments for their meticulous organisation of the ceremony and its successful execution.
