The Junior School Sports Day 2025 was celebrated with tremendous enthusiasm and vibrant participation on 13th November 2025 at the Bishop Cotton Boys’ School First Eleven Field. Students and parents gathered in large numbers to witness one of the most eagerly awaited events of the academic year. The atmosphere was electric as children from all five houses cheered passionately, displaying exemplary team spirit and camaraderie.
The programme commenced with a solemn prayer by Rev. Rachel Sudarshan, invoking God’s blessings for a smooth and successful event. Principal Mr. Alistair R. A. Freese warmly welcomed the Chief Guest, Ms. Neole Anna Cornelio, along with other dignitaries present for the occasion. The Chief Guest’s inspiring words encouraged students to strive for excellence in all their pursuits.
The Junior School Annual Athletic Meet 2025–2026 was officially declared open by the Chief Guest. Torchbearers representing each house carried the Olympic flame to ignite the ceremonial cauldron, symbolising the commencement of the meet. This was followed by the unfurling of the school flag and the much-awaited march past, a spectacular display of discipline and unity led by the Junior School Sports Captain, Navaneet A. Y.
Adding a creative touch to this year’s event, Sports Day featured special mascots inspired by Children’s Day, representing students from Standard 1 to Standard 5 — a delightful celebration of imagination, youthful energy, and the bright future of our young leaders.
The cultural drills that followed were a visual treat.
- Standard 1 students charmed the audience with a lively welcome drill — The Cottonian Toca’s — performing to the popular track “Toca Toca” in colourful costumes and captivating formations.
- Standards 2 and 3 thrilled the crowd with an energetic routine to Michael Jackson’s “Black and White,” impressing everyone with their sharp moves and infectious enthusiasm.
- Standards 4 and 5 presented The Twirl-a-Brella, a graceful and vibrant display with umbrellas, showcasing perfect coordination, rhythm, and teamwork.
The athletic events began with great excitement as students competed in various track and field events, including inter-school relays, the 50-meter dash, and the 200-meter sprint. A fiercely contested tug of war between Elphick House and Pettigrew House saw Elphick emerge victorious, drawing loud cheers from students and parents alike.
One of the most anticipated highlights of the day was the Parents’ Tug of War. The field erupted with cheers as parents displayed remarkable enthusiasm and sportsmanship. The winning team was awarded medals by the Principal, adding to the festive spirit of the occasion.
The event concluded with the ceremonial lowering of the flag, which was handed over respectfully for safekeeping. The school and house captains then led the gathering in a rousing round of three cheers, marking the successful end of a memorable Sports Day.
A special word of gratitude to the Physical Education Department for their dedicated planning, seamless coordination, and wholehearted efforts in making the Junior School Sports Day 2025 a grand success.
The event stood as a shining example of teamwork, discipline, and sporting excellence — values deeply cherished at Bishop Cotton Boys’ School.
On Straight On!
