Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, Bengaluru, celebrated Independence Day on 15 August 2026 with great dignity, patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. The celebration brought together the school community to commemorate the nation’s freedom and to reflect upon the values of courage, sacrifice, unity and service that continue to shape the country.
The proceedings commenced with the reporting of staff and cadets at 7:15 a.m., followed by the assembly of platoons at 7:25 a.m. and the VIP call at 7:40 a.m. The formal ceremony began at 7:45 a.m. with the hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem performed by the School Band. The solemnity of the ceremony provided a fitting reminder of the sacrifices made by countless individuals in India’s journey towards independence.
The cultural programme that followed presented a vibrant blend of patriotism, prayer, music, dance and India’s rich linguistic heritage. The proceedings were compered by Tanish ES and Othniel Samuel. The programme opened with Bible Reading and Prayer, setting a reflective tone for the celebrations. This was followed by the KG Section’s welcome dance, “Badthe Chalo,” which brought youthful energy and enthusiasm to the occasion. Eshan Rajan’s Patriotic Address then emphasised the significance of patriotism and the responsibilities associated with citizenship.
The Junior School presented “Spin for the Nation,” an energetic performance that showcased coordination, confidence and patriotic spirit. The Department of Kannada followed with a Kannada Cultural Presentation, celebrating regional language and heritage, while the Department of Hindi presented a Cultural Extravaganza that further highlighted India’s linguistic and cultural diversity. The ISC Band added a musical dimension to the programme with a special performance.
A significant highlight was the address by the Chief Guest, Capt. Manikandan Nambiar, Commanding Officer, 1 Karnataka Naval Unit NCC, Bengaluru. His distinguished naval career includes his commissioning in January 1998, qualification as a Naval Aviation Observer, service in ship-borne aviation, and several important operational and instructional appointments. He served as Executive Officer of INS Hansa from 2018 to 2024 and was awarded the C-in-C Commendation in 2017. His presence and address added considerable significance to the celebration, offering students an Inspiring example of leadership, discipline and dedicated service to the nation.
The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Daksh A. Singvi, expressing sincere gratitude to the Chief Guest, the Principal for his guidance, encouragement and leadership, the teachers, staff, NCC cadets, students, performers and everyone who contributed to the successful conduct of the event.
Overall, the celebration was a fitting tribute to India’s independence, combining ceremonial dignity with cultural expression and enthusiastic student participation. The occasion was made especially meaningful through the gracious presence and support of the Chief Guest and the Principal, whose encouragement contributed greatly to the success of the programme. The school extends its sincere gratitude to the Chief Guest for gracing the occasion and sharing in the celebration, and to the Principal for the constant guidance and support extended towards its successful conduct. Their encouragement, along with the collective efforts of the staff and students, helped reinforce the message that the freedom inherited from previous generations carries with it the responsibility to uphold the values of unity, integrity, discipline and service.
