The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour by the students and staff of Bishop Cotton Boys’ School.
Prior to the celebrations, the school community paid solemn homage to the late Dr Francis Samuel, former Principal of the school. A minute’s silence was observed in his memory.
The programme commenced with the unfurling of the National Flag by the Principal, followed by the National Pledge and an impressive march past by the NCC Army, Air and Navy platoons, along with other uniformed services including Scouts, SAFE, Cubs and NSS. The National Salute was received by the Principal.
The cultural programme showcased vibrant patriotic dances and moving tributes, with spirited participation from all sections of the school, from Kindergarten to ISC. The ideals of freedom, unity and peace were reflected throughout the performances.
A highlight of the programme was the powerful rendition of the classical piece “Peacock” by Ameya Karaba, accompanied on the drums by Zuriel S Kenani seamlessly blending tradition with modern expression. Ayush Prem delivered an inspiring speech on patriotic fervour, emphasising the importance of responsible citizenship and active participation in democracy. In his address, the Principal underscored the need to safeguard democratic values at all times.
The celebration was further enriched by the ISC band’s soulful rendition of “Vande Mataram,” performed by Dhruv Kulkarni and Prajwal, followed by a spirited drum recital and a spectacular marching display by the school brass band.
The school places on record its deep appreciation for the parents who turned up in large numbers to support their wards, their presence reflecting a shared sense of pride, patriotism, and partnership with the institution.
The school extends its appreciation to the Vice Principal, Coordinators, teachers-in-charge of the uniformed services, and the technical and support staff for their dedicated efforts in making the celebration a grand success. A sumptuous breakfast was served to all staff members and participants, adding warmth and fellowship to the occasion.
