Organized by: Water for Voiceless (WFV)
Date: 28th March 2025
Venue: Bishop George Edward Lynch Cotton Auditorium
Target Audience: Grade 10 & 12 Students
Water for Voiceless (WFV), an esteemed non-profit organization founded in 2015, is devoted to advancing compassion towards animals and promoting harmonious coexistence between humans and the animal kingdom. With a mission to address the plight of the most vulnerable members of the ecosystem, particularly stray animals, and wildlife, WFV has persistently sought to raise awareness and advocate for the protection of all living creatures. In partnership with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the organization orchestrated an insightful awareness session on 28th March 2025 for the students at Bishop Cotton Boys' School, Bangalore. In her welcome address, Mrs. Neelika Joel, Dept. of Biology (ISC), eloquently highlighted the urgent significance of water conservation, emphasizing its profound, far-reaching impact not only on domesticated animals and wildlife but also on avian species and broader ecosystems.
The Session: A Compelling Dialogue
The event commenced with an enthusiastic welcome to the students, as Mr. Praful Maun, a representative of WFV, took to the podium. His eloquent presentation set the tone for the session, emphasizing the fundamental importance of water conservation, not only for human life but also for animals, many of whom are increasingly vulnerable to the environmental challenges that affect the entire ecosystem. Through a visually engaging slideshow, Mr. Maun effectively communicated the interconnectedness of all living beings, highlighting the vital role that humans can play in safeguarding the welfare of animals. The session served a dual purpose: to inform the students about the pressing struggles faced by stray animals and wildlife and to raise awareness about the critical safety measures required in caring for these creatures.
A significant aspect of Mr. Maun’s address was his impassioned call to action, urging the students to recognize the interdependence of all life forms. He emphasized the shared responsibility of humans in ensuring the survival and flourishing of other species. Central to the message was the theme of "co-existence," which formed the foundation of the entire session, prompting students to reflect on their potential to create a positive impact on the broader ecosystem.
Pledge for Co-existence
As the session neared its conclusion, students were invited to take a collective pledge, signifying their commitment to fostering a world where humans and animals coexist harmoniously. The pledge, under the theme "Together, we co-exist, Together, we thrive," resonated deeply with the students, inspiring them to take active steps towards contributing to a more compassionate and inclusive world. The moment encapsulated the overarching message of the campaign, leaving the students with a sense of empowerment and responsibility.
Closing Remarks
The event culminated with poignant closing remarks from Dr. Basavaraj Biradar, Additional Director of BBMP, and Mr. Alistair R. A. Freese, Principal of Bishop Cotton Boys' School. Both speakers underscored the importance of compassion in shaping a society that upholds the dignity of all living beings, regardless of their species. Their words reinforced the core message of the session, calling for empathy and action in the face of environmental and ethical challenges.
In a fitting symbolic gesture, Mr. Maun and his team—comprising Mrs. Aditi, Mrs. Anuradha, and Ms. Yesha—presented water bowls to the Principal, Associate Coordinator Mrs Mercy Stanley and the student representatives. This act beautifully encapsulated the essence of the campaign: ensuring access to clean water for all animals, both domestic and wild, whose needs are often overlooked in the rush of daily life.
Conclusion
The awareness session organized by Water for Voiceless was a profoundly impactful and thought-provoking experience for the students at Bishop Cotton Boys' School. Not only did it impart essential knowledge about animal welfare and water conservation, but it also instilled a deep sense of responsibility among the youth. The event’s message of peaceful co-existence and collective action will undoubtedly resonate with the students, leaving a lasting impression as they carry forward the mission of fostering a compassionate and inclusive world where all creatures—human and animal alike—can thrive.
The institution expresses its sincere gratitude to our Principal, Mr. Alistair R A Freese, for his invaluable efforts in organizing such impactful events in collaboration with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), fostering a spirit of community engagement and social responsibility
