The safety, dignity and well-being of every boy is the School’s first responsibility. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited within the School, its boarding houses, its transport and at all School activities, in keeping with the applicable laws and regulations of the land.
What ragging means
Ragging includes any act - by an individual or a group - that teases, treats roughly, or handles a fellow student with rudeness; that causes, or is likely to cause, physical or psychological harm, fear, shame or embarrassment; or that asks a student to do something he would not ordinarily do and which causes him distress. It covers verbal, physical, written and online conduct alike.
Our commitment
- Ragging, bullying and harassment of any kind are treated as serious breaches of School discipline.
- Every student and every parent is expected to understand and uphold this policy.
- Boarders, day scholars and students in transit are equally protected by it.
- A boy who witnesses ragging is encouraged to report it; doing so is an act of courage, not of disloyalty.
Consequences
Any student found to have engaged in ragging is liable to strict disciplinary action by the School, proportionate to the gravity of the act. Depending on the circumstances this may include counselling, suspension, or, in serious cases, dismissal from the School, alongside any action required under the law.
Reporting & support
Any student, parent or member of staff who becomes aware of ragging should report it at once to a House Tutor, the counsellor, or the School office. Complaints are treated seriously, sensitively and in confidence, and the School’s pastoral team will act promptly to protect the student concerned.
Anti-Ragging Committee
The School’s Anti-Ragging Committee - comprising members of the leadership, faculty and pastoral staff - oversees the prevention of ragging, reviews any reported incident, and ensures that this policy is upheld across every part of School life.
